Hand-painted Watercolor Cards

Every year, generally by July, I paint Christmas cards in watercolor. Each recipient gets a personalized-to-their-interests card. One brother loves landscapes, another brother loves birds, and I always paint something cute for my grandson.

You can find some really easy designs to paint online, and it doesn't have to be in watercolor. You can use acrylic paints or even colored pencils. Heck, use crayons!

Take a picture of a pretty vine then trace it onto your paper using graphite paper or a projector. Color it in, draw a bow on the stem, and - voila! You have a personalized card.

In my sample below, I had a picture of an orange belly Chickadee. Using my projector that I can plug into my laptop; I traced it onto watercolor paper then splashed some color around. It doesn't have to be "picture perfect". A little running of color here and there makes a great looking abstract.

Have fun with it. Good luck!

PS If you're not into that sort of thing, scroll down for some popular Christmas cards selling on Zazzle.
